It just opens the Apple TV app and it just looks like a Netflix style app

YouTube videos, or any videos on any app. Nothing works. The tv never comes up on my screen share and is never found on the air play menu either. My tv is on the same network and everything

Scan the QR code in the home app https://i.imgur.com/YF2v8gm.jpg

That will add the TV to your home and should resolve your issue.
