Take it to a repair shop asap so that they can open it up and see how much water got in and subsequently how much damage was caused. Don’t sit on it, pun intended.

Can’t just stick it in rice? :c

Rice doesn't absorb moisture unless the grains are actually touching it.

Better to put it on a towel and leave it in a warm room

Next time, as soon as it happens, turn it off, put it in the center of kitchen oven, set the temperature to 85°C and leave it there for 12 hours. Get it out carefully, turn it on when you can touch it and… ready to use

No case, and, if possible, no screen protector…

No. Also sad news the chemicals in pool likely killed it. Also thats an iphone 12 why and how did it get water damaged has it been repaired before

2

2jah t1_j6mfqml wrote

Just because it's an iphone 12 doesn't mean they can't get water damaged. It's water resistant, not waterproof. The water resistance seal becomes loose overtime. The 12 series of phones are now 2 years old.

Never been repaired before. I honestly have no clue. Someone else brought it up earlier and got downvoted to hell by people who wouldn’t bother to explain why or how..

AsianJesusGod t1_j6mfwje wrote

Okay u prob left it in heat for long periods of time repeatedly damaging the seal

I thought iPhone 12 was waterproof??

All phones with an IP rating are not water proof, just water resistant.

I didn’t say all phones

“All phones” includes iPhones…. Every single one since water resistance was first advertised on the 7.

Yeah me too. I’m kinda irked. It was in the pool (shallow side) 20 seconds at most..

Fuck man that sucks. Maybe it’s a sign, the universe wants you to get a new phone?!! Legend has it, you could do that then get it ‘stolen’ and your insurance would reimburse you if you pay with visa lol

This happened to my 11 a few weeks ago after it fell in the bath. Face ID quit working and the front camera was all fogged up. It decided to work again the day I got a 14 Pro, lol. Now it works but looks like there’s a ring of rust around the inside of the lens. Idk if it’s rust or not but it looks coppery.

irisd23 OP t1_j6ln4ai wrote

Ahh, I think this is it. My face ID is done for too. It’s good to know that maybe it could start working again because I can’t afford a new one lol.

FlaaffyPink t1_j6lnp4r wrote

It was kinda annoying having to enter the passcode constantly, but it wasn’t the worst thing. It took a couple weeks for it to work again reliably. I hope yours works again!

Neither-Cup564 t1_j6nfy7g wrote

Open it up asap. The longer you leave it the worse it will get. Pools are mostly salt water which will corrode parts.

1

Pretty-Mistake-1970 t1_j6lscl3 wrote

Had the exact same thing happen to my 12. The support will offer you a replacement phone for X amount of $. With luck your Face ID won’t be damaged, but most likely it will, and it won’t work anymore. The camera will eventually dry out and work “fine” with portrait mode not focusing. So yeah, that’s pretty much what can and will most LIKELY happen.

bigshiba04 t1_j6jo4ug wrote

Get it fixed asap, might require a screen replacement

1

irisd23 OP t1_j6jpl7n wrote

Would you know how much that’d cost me?

3

bigshiba04 t1_j6js43h wrote

$29 with AppleCare+, $279 without AppleCare. If you do not have AppleCare, it would be cheaper to get it replaced at a third party phone repair shop rather than to get it fixed by Apple.

Xindependent777 t1_j6mlhyi wrote

Does you Face ID work ? Had it happen my phone was in a bag while it rained it somehow got moisture inside the phone and Face ID stopped working

1

irisd23 OP t1_j6mlmpv wrote

Nope.

1

Xindependent777 t1_j6mqvxj wrote

Yeah there’s nothing you can do to bring it back. You can clean the lens of the camera to get a camera but Face ID is not coming back

Idontmatter69420 t1_j6mp5oz wrote

What ever you do make sure it is off, most water damage stuff dies because power is sent through which shorts it
