The light rail only runs every 20 minutes on the weekend and it's pretty cold waiting at stations right now.

It doesn't seem to actually run by the time tables that google and other apps have but once I'm at a station the times displayed are usually pretty accurate. Is there any way to see those times displayed at stations before actually getting there so I can just better plan how long I'll be waiting?

In the the city for buses you can go to their app, type in the bus route, and then see where all the buses on it currently are.

I don't think so, but if anyone knows a data source it would be great.

It's so frustrating. As you say, the times at the station are accurate, but the Google data and NJ transit app aren't right.

Edit: After looking at the NJ Transit website, it seems pretty clear that they don't expose this data:

I'm going to file a request ticket with them to expose this data, but presumably there's some reason they haven't so far

Isn’t this on the NJ transit app?

It's not live on the app. Only shows a schedule which is NOT accurate.

It’s not technically real time, but the Via app somehow has accurate run times based on the weekend schedule. Just punch in light rail stops as your pick up location and destination and, in addition to whether or not there’s a Via in the area, it will tell you when the next light rail is.

The best thing I’ve found is text the number posted at the station with your station code (I think you can also google them). They aren’t always right, but better than guessing blind

I use the Transit app on iOS and I find it pretty reliable. On the weekends there are often service changes that impact the times. It helps to follow them on social. They’ll post the times the trains leave from their starting terminals. If one is operating every 30 minutes as opposed to the usual 20 minutes, I know to be careful.
