Hello,

as you may know from the title last Thursday at around 12:20 P.M. this occurred in JFK Blvd there was a guy that double park in front of a green light there was no cars around so I thought I just move to the left lane and then suddenly another car came by and did a scratch on his car on the right side, and the mirror is semi broken.

Both of us we're not hurt we decided to exchange information and not to call the police or get insurance claim because of the guy that double park. Now, we both agreed to take his car to his mechanic and ours as well to find out the pricing.

His mechanic lives around in Communipaw Ave the problem with his mechanic his price is more expensive or dare I say overpricing and it was estimate around $2000 for a body labor and replacement for a mirror when all he really needs is a paint job

We take him to our guy he's way cheaper and the price was $1100. The person says he'll let us know

Come to this week this guy was disappointed claims our mechanic is not professional and notices that the paint job is displeasing and that bumper has a small scratch we paid for the right side and the mirror only to find out today he wants the mirror replaced-not fixed (specifically the shell) and a bumper that has scratch- a small one, and I never saw anyone complain about small scratch or that much of stickler on this. I'm sorry about the last part but this guy is making me frustrated just a little bit.

Any suggestions? I'm gonna hear the price today from his mechanic

Edit: Thank you for those giving suggestions yes I should've gotten through the insurance

I understand but both me and the other driver decided against that had we both done the insurance claim none of this would've happened.

Just file an insurance claim if you don't want to deal with this.

You are stupid for not going through insurance. Your recourse is simple to just ignore him.

If he agreed to a fix and the fix was performed then your part is done. If he’s not happy w the fix that’s between him and the mechanic. Tell him to get lost

You fucked up the second y’all decided to not call the cops/go through insurance. Can’t believe people still trust folks when it comes to a car accident, in jersey city no less.

It depends how much your deductible is.

If you already spent $1,100 and your deductible is $500, you’d be spending $1,600 altogether because they won’t refund you for what you spent. On top of that, the insurance company is going to put you at fault because he had the right of way which guarantees that your premium will go up.

If you spent $1,100 and your insurance is $1,000 don’t contact your insurance whatsoever. Not even to inquire because they can still raise your premium (albeit less) with this information.

Regardless, it seems like his car is fixed and he’s being a douche. I would keep the receipts from whatever you spent and tell him to see you in court if he wants more out of you.

The other alternative is to pay the other $1100 but to me that’s excessive to pay $2200 to fix his car with the amount of damage you’re describing. I highly recommend telling him you can settle it in court. I don’t want to see you get taken advantage of.

Any reason (besides my prem may go up) you don't want to use insurance? Even if your at fault, your premium may not go up as much. It will be the easier route and you won't have to deal with this BS

That was kinda on me and my brother to not to do the insurance (yes we have full coverage in case if you're asking) but my dad contacted the lawyer and he says its best to pay them whatever his mechanic is gonna say and just go with it. I know it's too much but this guy and us we both go to different colleges I go to Montclair (so does my brother) he goes to NJCU.

At least this is a lesson learned. Had you gone with your insurance you would had just paid the deductible and let the insurance deal with it.
