Just moved into one of the newer buildings in the Bergen-Lafayette area and got my first month electricity bill of ~$100. This is around 50% higher than what my bill used to be in the Newport area (one of the newer buildings). Curious to know if this is the norm here? I’m in a 1B1B, WFH permanently, and live alone.

Edit: Updated description to say Bergen-Lafayette instead of “BELA”

Please stop trying to make BELA happen

Look man, I live here too. It's just too long to write Bergen-Lafayette out every time. Also, I usually have to rely on spell check for the second half, so BeLa works fine for me.

It won't turn it into a SoDoSoPa.

Not sure how they are doing it the newer buildings, but welcome to the neighborhood!

BTW, hosting a poker game next Friday if you want to come by and meet some peeps.

Well only since you agreed as a good sport.

Really the only folks that can answer that are your neighbors in the same building. Even then, some units may have issues; I new someone in a new building that had $500+ heating bills the first winter the building was open, and after the developer looked into it to make sure the unit was wired correctly found they didn't seal the concrete slab for that specific apartment correctly so all the heat was getting wicked away. Which side of the building your on can also make a surprising difference in heating/cooling costs depending on the sun.

Did you have PTACs in newport? Most friends I know with PTACs in new construction run $100-250+ during cold months heating the place, more if it's actually cold VS the last few months. Keeping them low & on all the time so it runs the heat pump (if it has that) helps.

ive lived in both a studio and 1 bedroom in Bergen-Lafayette and my highest bill is typically winter/this time of yr (highest has been like $102 for my 1 bed). Most of the time my bill is in the mid $60 range or even less (lowest i got was a $40something). This month my bill was just shy of $90. I think how much time i spend in my apartment makes a difference (my job usually keeps me out more then half the day).
