Is it worth getting a recycle bin from the city or will it just get stolen?

I would like a bin to use for mixed paper because it's supposed to go separate from cardboard and aluminum/glass.

I see that DPW provides homeowners with a bin, but my wife's family who grew up here in JC say don't bother because someone will just steal it. Pretty much nobody on our block has one, everybody just uses regular trash cans bought from the store.

Anyone here use an official bin? Anyone have theirs stolen?

Had one that probably wasn’t “stolen” per se, I assume someone else on the block took it in with their own. I’m now on the 2nd round of them and spray painted our address on the cans and now it’s 2 years no issues.

Yeah, that's what I thought but my family discouraged me.

But they've been living here since way back and some of their advice comes from living in 80's-90's JC, so maybe they're just paranoid. Like they call me out for walking around with earbuds because to them it's a matter of time before I get jumped and I won't hear them coming this way.

Wanted to see what others thought, but I'll probably just get one and spray paint it like the other person said. I guess if it gets stolen NBD, I'm just out the pain in the ass of going down to DPW and showing all my paperwork.

Sometimes the recycle people move so fast it ends up infront someone elses house, tag your address # on it with a stencil

I have regular 50gal wheeled containers sprayed with the type of recycling and address. One went missing for days, I finally found it at a neighboring rental building filled with regular trash. Even if the collectors left it in front of them WTF is wrong with these people that not only do they not see someone else's address but they don't even see it says GLASS METAL & PLASTICS in 6 inch letters?
