This seems to happen a lot. I can't recall ever deleting a post that wasn't an actual error of some kind, or doubling someone else's. Many non-reddit forums do not allow it.

This was the most recent, from this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/jerseycity/comments/1061cgb/comment/j3jmn27/?context=3

I don't know what the rest of his post said, he had deleted it and all his posts in the thread, by the time I returned to Reddit, presumably because he found out he was dead wrong.

Everybody's wrong sometimes. But the ability to just erase an entire conversation seems wrong too. Perhaps without it, people would be more civil, or at more least thoughtful before doubling down!

EDIT: apparently when someone blocks you, their posts say "Deleted". Bizarre to block me, all I did was politely point out they might be wrong. Also bizarre to downvote a response where all I say is (factually) the post says "deleted".

I can see the thread just fine. Do the posts show up as "unavailable"? You probably got "blocked", and should be able to see the thread in a private tab (...which makes no sense, and the blocker can still read your posts, they are just collapsed. If anyone blocks me, I take the effort to block them right back for mutual thread breakage)

Regarding actual deleted posts, unfortunately I think it's just how Reddit works. There's a site that tries to archive them (but removes user-deleted comments): https://www.reveddit.com/r/jerseycity/

Heres another one that keeps deleted comments (but doesn't have a post listing): https://www.unddit.com/r/jerseycity/comments/1005wsy/sos_where_to_find_yerba_mate/

You would be correct if we were talking about cat pictures, but this sub is the closest thing we have to a decent online community for our real life community, and I personally believe we should try to act like neighbors here instead of Internet assholes.

The comment wasn’t deleted. He was blocked.

Which still not a huge deal but it is hella irritating when you’re participating in a discussion and someone replies to you, then blocks you, and you can’t respond.

But. Life goes on.

The thing I have learned about Reddit is that it is filled with a ton of know-nothing younglings and a bunch of keyboard warriors, often spewing nonsense or straight up misinformation, unable (or, unwilling) to have rational debates, and too immature to be able to acknowledge an incorrect opinion. As a result, you end up with what I call "drive by" posts that make zero sense, or are completely and wildly wrong, and often time deleted posts by people who were too chicken shit immature to acknowledge they were entirely wrong or off base, and instead delete their comment or reply. Just wait until you get accused of a completely made up grievance, like has already happened to me.

Unfortunately (for the other person) even deleted posts/comments can be reached if you have a direct link to them, and that person looked like a hysterical and deluded fool when I posted links to what was actually said/written.

This is an issue you have with Reddit, not a Jersey City topic

Classic whiny loser. Who cares? It’s the internet. You people are embarrassing. Man up if you don’t like something you see.. simply scroll past it.

Who cares? A better question you should be asking is why you're so worked up about proving a stranger wrong who you yourself, say probably already realized he was wrong...and if that is the case...you answered your own question. Why WOULDN'T that person delete something they posted that they realized later was wrong. Your obsession is just weird.

Lol. Neighbors should act like neighbors. If you don't want to deal with "internet assholes" than don't post to the internet. 🤷‍♂️

By the way, calling people "internet assholes," sounds pretty "belligerent" to me...that's the word you used, right?
