Yeah they might exile you to Liberty Island
Might be smart to start planning to leave the country
I saw a woman tap her card at that wide turnstile and you know how that one kind of has a delay while it opens and closes? I honestly think she thought it took her card before she walked through but it was actually still open from the last fare and they ticketed her. I mean her Smartlink card was in her hand. I thought that was ridiculous. I am pretty sure I have done the same thing during the morning rush.
This is the kind of shit that SHOULD NOT happen. If fare enforcement is in effect, focus on people actively seeking to avoid paying a fare. I have also seen situations where a turnstile is slow to respond to a tap and the person ends up tapping twice, paying double fare and then the turnstile stays free for the next person. Should the next person that uses that turnstile with a credit in it be ticketed for not paying? The fare got paid by someone else, so it shouldn't be a problem.
I was trying to go to JC from WTC during the morning rush hour, around 8 AM. The PATH had JUST gotten off and every turnstile was full with people going towards the city. I waited for what felt like a really long time but it was probably just a few seconds trying to squeeze in and gave up. I finally just walked through the ADA accessible turnstile that was open as people were walking through it. I had my metrocard IN MY HAND and a PA cop yelled at me from across the station to pay or he would ticket me. So I had to just go back around. I'm happy he didn't give me a ticket, but it was quite literally the ONLY Time I have not paid. It was 100% my fault but was so embarrassing.
"Should I just not give my ID next time?" You are out of your mind worrying now, and yet you say "next time"? Did you not learn anything? Pay the fare, or you deserve what you get.
> Also real annoyed bc I saw the same cop not ticket to other folks right after me bc they didn't have IDs to give him. Should I just not give my ID next time?
There were people turnstile hopping after you?? Aka they saw you getting ticketed and still hopped?

Curious how did you get caught? What time/what station did you get ticketed
AFAIK, It’s a violation, not a crime. Re: green card and other immigration related issue, you should really talk to an immigration lawyer, not Reddit

Under NJ law, this is not a crime. So if you are ever asked if you’ve been convicted of a crime, you can truthfully answer no (assuming you haven’t committed another crime).
Court records are public so it will be out there, but it’s very unlikely it would show up on a background check that employers or landlords use. Fare evasion tickets are pretty run of the mill. It would be like hassling someone for a speeding ticket, nobody really cares.
not that deep☠️
Where did this happen?
If I was a landlord, I would want to know if you were guilty of fare evasion. That speaks to character and I probably wouldn’t rent to you. Actions have consequences.

So you agree that actions deserve consequences. I see you defending Amy DeGise with every bone in your body though.
As a landlord, I would be concerned about the tenant not following the rules and attempting to scam me and cause me to lose money. Why antagonize the DeGise family with lies and half truths when they could make our lives in Hudson County miserable and cost us even more money?
Lies and half truths? HUH? And you’re afraid they could make people of Hudson County miserable? That would be called corruption. If you’re afraid of a corrupt response, you must know that speaks volumes to Amy and her family’s character.
You’re all over the place lol.

will I be required to disclose this to future employers? - no
will this show up on a background check? For how long? - no
how will this impact getting a license in NJ? It won't
is this the same thing as a misdemeanor? No
will this be on any sort of permanent record or publically accessible record? Technically will be a court record but no one will care. I have probably received about 50 parking tickets (a similar offense) in my life and no one has ever asked about them.
what will I need to pay? He said it will be like $30 but online I see 70-100 - whatever it says online when you plug in the ticket info
will I need to report this to landlords in the future , no
It's a non criminal offense. It's just a fine. Chill out, pay it, and don't be so dumb next time. You are really freaking out over nothing.
