In the United States and Canada at least, Middle School is either grades 6-8 or 7-8, depending on the state/province.

Next dumb question. In my country, a grade is what you get at the end of the year, telling you how well you done. What the fuck is an American grade?

Years of school after kindergarten, so like grade 1 would be your first year after kindergarten, grade 2 is 2 years, etc.

Where I am in Canada, we don't have middle schools, so our elementary schools are from kindergarten to grade 8, and high school is 9-12.

We stop counting grades after high school, so once you go to post-secondary it's just first-year, second-year, etc.

Yeah we're kinda similar in Scotland. Except it's nursery, then primary school for 7 years and then highschool for 4/6 as you can leave after 4 years whenever you want.
