People think he doesn't have the right voice for Mario. Also, While Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Keegan Michael Key are putting on voices while voicing Bowser, Peach, and Toad, Chris is just using his regular voice while putting on a slight brooklyn accent. Personally tho, I don't have a problem with Chris as Mario.
