So it kind of looks like a Nixie clock, but not exactly.

Neat

I don’t know what brand this is, but I think the idea was to make something similar to and less expensive than the Nixie clock.

It changes colors too.

The shadow it casts on the wall is the only thing that would bother me, otherwise it looks fantastic.

We got a discount because it doesn’t tell the right time.

“Kids! Time for bed! It’s already 8:62!”

Just kidding. There are six sections. The display is HH:MM:SS. I took this at 06:25:15 PM.

The creator's most recent version is the Lyxie 2, and the original is available at a few places I could find

Why is it your “wife’s” clock and not “our” clock?

Zocalo_Photo OP t1_j27i9me wrote

It was her Christmas present and it’s on her desk.

I’m not allowed to read the time off of it because it’s hers. That’s why I only took a picture of two numbers. She’d kill me if she knew I was playing with it. Ha ha.

Because maybe it's his wife's clock? Not everything is a power struggle champ.

How is it competitive tho?

This is a very odd question.

secret_to_the_secret t1_j27ikzt wrote

I understand the oddness for sure.

I have bought clocks for the house. Same with my partner of ten years. I’ve never claimed a clock. Nor has she.

So, in thought it could be for her (example) game room? Yeah I totally get it.

But like if it was the bedroom or a more common area I would consider it our clock and not mine or hers necessarily.

Im just bored. Sorry.

Could be her bedside clock, or a clock she just received for xmas. Would make sense to refer to it as "hers" in these cases. I think.

Someone updated Nixie tubes. I used to replace those on missile launch panels.

It's an edge-lit display. This was used in the early 60s in some voltmeters made by Non-Linear Systems and others. https://www.sr-ix.com/Archive/instruments/Cubic-V45/

Zocalo_Photo OP t1_j29rb1c wrote

That’s very cool. This may be a dumb question, but did they have LEDs back then? How did the edge kit display work? With this clock we have, the glass (maybe plastic, I’m not sure) pieces are close together and are lit with small LED.

Also, I saw your Nixie tube display in your car. That is amazing!

It was tiny light bulbs at the bottom, controlled by stepping relays.

No, my wife has a small craft room. She keeps it on her desk in there.
