My vote, Soylent Green.

To be honest I went my whole life until about 35 years old, knowing the line "Soylent Green is people" but never really considered it's origins. I managed to actually watch it and knowing the twist at the end and it was still good.

But I truly feel this is a movie that could be remade, but with the mindset and edginess of the fucked up world we live in today.

Actual was thinking last night if they did a remake of First Blood, watched it again about the 4 th time now. Maybe not one to to mess with but a sort of a modern spin, a bit of back story and more in homage to the original. Not sure who to get to play Rambo, even if they are not called Rambo.

I was thinking the other day about...hear me out...Denis Villeneuve's 2001: A Space Odyssey, scored by Hans Zimmer. It would be a brave man to take on one of the all time greats, but after Dune I want nothing more than to see Denis' vision for it.

Sort of related: does it make anyone else insane that there's an actual company named Soylent that makes some kind of beverage? Seriously why the fuck. I know it's probably not made of people but I don't want to try it anyway.

To answer your question, I feel like Troll 2 would be fantastic to get remade with a bit of a rewrite. The premise is actually pretty interesting, right? A kid is forced to vacation in a bizarre town where his sister's friends keep going missing, the ghost of his grandfather is trying to save the family but the kid is the only one who can see him and isn't believed by the family, and it turns out the town is inhabited by goblins who turn people into plants to eat them. I think it could make a good intentional horror comedy, with some script polishing (and with letting the actors give feedback that the script doesn't make sense).

Interestingly, the scene of Heston screaming "it's people! Soylent Green is people!" was in the trailer. At the time, "no spoiler" plot twists were seen as a gimmick.

I loved what GDT did with Nightmare Alley. I love all old noir films, but the violence sometimes feels so dated, which can mute the climax. I can't think of any examples to remake, but I just thought what he did felt so potent. I mean he usually punctuates his endings with violence, which is why maybe it fit so naturally into his oeuvre.
