Murder by Decree - 1979, starring Christopher Plummer and James Mason as Holmes and Watson - very well written and nicely atmospheric.

Also, not a movie but speaking of Sherlock Holmes, have you seen the British Sherlock Holmes TV series which was broadcast from the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s? Jeremy Brett stars as Holmes.
