I loved him in The Departed. I thought he was great in The Aviator, Catch me if you can.

I rarely see the aviator being mentioned. It's been a long time since i saw it, so maybe a re-watch is due, but i think that was one of his best performances.

I just watched it for the first time a month ago and I was amazed. I too am surprised at how little the Aviator is talked about, it's a fantastic movie imo.

It's not top tier Scorsese and Leo's probably a little too young for the role, I would have loved to see Christian Bale in the role (Tommy Lee Jones played a great Howard Hughes in a TV movie from the early 80's). But Leo gives it his full go, and delivers a good performance. I don't think it's great in the second half but the first half when he's making Wings and before his breakdown it's great stuff.

Saw it again a few weeks ago. The CGI took me out of a few scenes. He was great before he lost his marbles though. The version of Hughes after he loses it felt like a caricature. It was ballsy to do but I think he was probably too young to pull it off. Today’s Leo could make it work better.
