I'm neutral on this cuz I think it also depends on the new generation of writers and directors as well.

Why the competition or filling the shoes of the past? It's a new era. Every decade has a bunch of new names drop onto the scene and rise in popularity. It has nothing to do with replacing actors. Inevitably, people get older so younger names get popular too.

There are always great actors coming up, so in terms of the craft, yes. As for actors with star power, or charisma, there will be those as well. But the movie/tv landscape is so vast and varied now, I'm not sure any of them will reach the star level of a Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Jack, Julia Roberts, Meryl, Pacino, Hoffman, Bogart, Cagney, Brando, Leonardo, Hanks, MM, The Duke, Bronson Pinchot etc

All seems fine to me. There are plenty of up and comers, and who knows how far they will go. This current generation of stars has long lived up to the legends of the past like Brando, grant, Douglas, bogart, etc. Meanwhile there are female actors today who completely blow away their counterparts of the past like Amy Adams and Frances Mcdormand. My money is on Julia Garner - everything that girl has done so far has been gold.

Maybe they won’t have as much impact as these past guys, but we shouldn’t expect them to be. We shouldn’t have to compare them, because there’s no point to. Will they be iconic for this generation and be this generations stars? Yes. Will they ever be on the level of iconic as all these other veterans? Too early to tell. But even if they don’t become as iconic, that’s fine cuz they don’t have to. They just have to be good at their job

Maybe to the younger generations, but for someone like me not really. I’m sure later on in life when the ones we all know and love have gone, the newer generations are going to look at the ones you mentioned and say so. I really dig Evan Peters and Robert Pattinson has come to surprise me recently. Also Tom Holland for The Devil All The Time (which also had Pattinson)

Only thing recent I've sent Pattinson in was The Batman, and I thought he was a good Batman, but struggled to get behind him as Bruce Wayne. I think that more of a writing/makeup thing than an acting thing though.
