David Leitch hasn't made a boring movie yet, so I'll happily give Kinberg a shot at making one of his rare good movies.
He was a writer on Mr and Mrs Smith, Sherlock Holmes (the RDJ one) and Days of Future past so that's like a 1 in 3 chance of making a good movie.
BlackCloverWizard t1_iy6rxdk wrote
Exactly my thought. Kinberg can have fun

His last movie was The 355 and he managed to make a total snooze fest with a stellar cast.
TheBlackSwarm t1_iy5tmya wrote
Love both Leitch and Tatum but Simon Kinberg being involved with anything is a bad sign by this point.
Didn’t he last do that 355 movie with Jessica Chastain? That was completely awful and generic. Seriously I’ve seen better DTV action movies.

I mean "X Men: First Class", "X-Men: DoFP", and the first Kingsmen were still alright. Should be fine as long as he's not directing.

Yeah, but Dark Phoenix, Apocalypse And X3 were also his.
Edit to add Fant4stic

Thank you. So this isn't based on the book?

> Red Shirt starring Channing Tatum. Based on an original pitch by Simon Kinberg, David Leitch is aboard to direct the pic. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch are producing under their 87 North production banner; Tatum is producing through his company, Free Association; Kinberg is producing through his Genre Films.
Story > Plot details are under wraps other than it being described as an international spy thriller.

I had hoped someone finally said let's adapt Red Shirts from John Scalzi
FlashbackUniverse t1_iy5tu3m wrote
Yeah, same here.
I wonder if things like The Orville or Lower Decks caused it to lose some of its luster as a media project.
TardisReality t1_iy5uk44 wrote
Maybe. Orville has really become really solid on it's own and Lower Decks has me getting back into Star Trek again
spartygw t1_iy6xcze wrote
Oh, I thought for sure this was going to be from Scalzi's book. Ok then, I'm out.

That's exactly what I thought this was. Now I'm disappointed!

Aw, I was hoping for a Star Trek spoof from the point of view of a disposable throw away side character.

Yikes 😬. Being sent to a streaming service is the new straight to DVD and with Simon kinberg involved you know it’s utter shit. This man keeps failing upward.
BrockThrowaway t1_iy66b1r wrote
Eh i kind of disagree. Some great movies are going straight to streaming.
mountainhighgoat t1_iy6ipk6 wrote
You have to take into consideration the director and people involved tho. This director did Hobbs and Shaw, Channing Tatum is the lead and Simon kinberg is involved, that’s straight to DVD material.
kerkuffles t1_iy8ig8p wrote
What happened to Channing Tatum? It seemed he was a top biller one day, and just gone the next.

Is this the famous script about a 'Red Shirt' member on the Star Trek ship that survives?
I have heard about it since the 90s but it never gets made.

I loved him with Sandra bullock in The Lost City. I think he’s charming and fun and just really needs the right material. That said, international spy thriller seems like it might not be it, but I guess we’ll see.
