Get a NAS, run Plex and build your own streaming server?

  1. Buy every movie you want to watch again at your local thrift store/pawn shop.

  2. Download Handbrake/VLC and make legal backups of those movies.

  3. Never worry about streaming ever again.

Honestly you probably want to do both. There's going to be movies you'd never thought to watch or ever hear of because they either didn't get much attention.

Mainstream, or popular movies will usually be streaming somewhere - but more art house or rare films may never hit streaming. If they do it'll be on a niche service more than likely.

You could invest in your own personal streaming system, i.e. build a server and upload your collection. But if you're not looking to invest into this...

I recommend buying any film you plan on watching more than once. If you're finding yourself watching a specific set of films constantly buy these. In the end you support everyone that made the film.

About 1/3 of the dvds I own I have never seen available streaming. (Of course available to purchase on Amazon).

Purchasing movies on sale on iTunes is always an option. They have most movies, and new sales every week or two.

I just buy what I want to watch from Google Play/YouTube. In the long run its cheaper, especially if you're one of those who like to have The Office or Friends on in the background. Personally, I find the streaming services a waste of money - but I'll sign on for one month a year and just binge whatever for 30 days. If Chappelle or Gervais puts out a new special, that's usually when I'll jump on board, but I always cancel the same day so I don't forget.
