Never Ending Story. Falcor flying, the rock biter and the princess were magical and grabbed me.
Edit: Oh wait. Where are you? Spoiler: (I don’t know how to do that black bar spoiler thing)Would you be offended by statues with boobs? Or a character dying in a very heartbreaking way?

that one blew the movie lid off for me when I was around 6. It had it all, action scenes, depressing scenes, scary scenes, catharsis, adventure, etc. Shame the sequels never captured the magic, or the quality, of the original.

It is THE children movie that try to remember you to continue to fantasize and use your imagination. It is so well done. A masterpiece IMO.

US. I’m personally not very prudish or into censoring, just would want it to be age appropriate (themes a kid can relate to) and would preview a sad death ahead of time to give it context probably.

Always a good idea. u/riegspsych325 below says it right. It has it all.

Most 80’s kids consider that movie traumatizing. I liked it though.
