I just now discovered these films. This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, and Best in Show are great. A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, and Mascots are meh. I love how the dialogue was improved and how they used the exact same cast for every film lol. I really like when directors do that honestly. It’s too bad Christopher Guest is retired because I would’ve been eagerly anticipating a new mockumentary film of his if one was in the works.

Don't forget his HBO series "Family Tree" with Chris O'Dowd.

I still find it weird that people call these "Christopher Guest mockumentary films" when Rob Reiner directed and made the first and, arguably (I guess), best one of them.

Those old films? No one knew who Chris Guest was or what he was doing. But his legacy remains. Hewn into the living rock of Stonehenge.

You'll probably really like Schitt's Creek too. If you haven't watched it already.

I really enjoyed "Waiting for Guffman" and "A Mighty Wind." I really struggled with "Best in Show" because the yuppie couple were so fucking awful that I wanted them to die just a few minutes after they first appeared. I know they're supposed to be horrible, but I couldn't find them funny in any way.

No hate on OP, who is just expressing a sincere appreciation for a new discovery (respect), but it does make me smile whenever I see a post that amounts to “hey, does anybody else like this hugely beloved film, or series, of which I was just previously unaware?”

I love A Mighty Wind because as a music fan, I get all the references. They're actually quite brilliant. Eugene Levy's performance in that film as Mitch is phenomenal.

there's also a sequel to spinal tap that came out in 1992(thereturn of spinal tap) and another one that's coming out in 2024(spinal tap 2).

edit- i do agree with your division of the films, re: which are great vs. which are meh.

Some of my favourite comedies and very formative in my sense of humour. In high school I kind of did a lot of everything. I played most sports but I was also good with writing and acting. I was friends with some of the improv team and I ended up joining in grade 12 and we finished 2nd in the country. Those guys were the ones who introduced me to them and I still watch those movies 20 years later. By far the best improv you will see in Hollywood movies. Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy are absolute comedian legends. Their chemistry is as good as it gets.

You can try all you want, but you can't pick a fight with me. I've already told you that I don't suffer fools gladly, but if you're too stubborn to listen, then go ahead and continue vomiting your impotent rage into the void.

Understand also that you'll be doing it alone, and probably forever.

Every day on reddit I read something that makes me feel older and older lol

Like when I saw people saying "Oh wow, did you know the teacher lady from Wednesday actually played the Wednesday character in some old movies?" re: Christina Ricci
