I’m currently living and working in Boston but would really like to move back home to NH. Does anyone make the commute from southern NH to Boston? Do you drive or take the train? I would need to get to the Longwood medical area.

I go once a week from the Seacoast. I drive to the park and ride in Seabrook and then take the bus into South Station from there. It’s easy but still a time commitment.

I’d love to take the train but its schedule just isn’t conducive to a normal commute. I’d recommend against driving if you plan on doing it more than once or twice a week… it will break you as a person lol

Yeah I’m starting to think driving would just not be doable since I work Mon-Fri. Is the bus from Seabrook reliable? About how long of a ride is it?

It’s very reliable. Check C&J’s schedule online. On average I’d say it’s about an hour and five minutes, sometimes longer or shorter depending on traffic.

I travel to Boston once a week from Southern NH and I am very careful for when I make the trip because it can take 50 minutes or 2 hours. I would not want to do it during the normal business day 5 days of the week.

Ya. If I leave by 6:30 it’s often fine. Any later? Hope you like parking on the highway.

I drive to/from Logan at least once a week. I drive to Woburn and take the Logan Express in. No way would I do that 5 days a week.

Assuming you can do each direction in an hour, that is 10 hours a week you'll be spending in your car. That is almost 21 days a year. Something to keep in mind when you're making your pro/con list.

I did it for well over a decade and I'd rather chew glass. Never again.

I take the park and ride Boston Express out of Londonderry when I go in (office in Cambridge). When mapping out my different commuting options plus cost, I decided the bus was the best, given the time I spent didn’t change that much but the cost was drastically more expensive to drive. But it’s still a loooooong day (I’m away from home 5:30-7:30), so I only do it when necessary, which ends up about 1x/quarter. I don’t know how some people make the commute regularly, but kudos to them.

I do the opposite, I live in Boston and drive to NH every day for work. You get used to the traffic patterns, and what days/times will be busiest. ive found that trying different methods of travel is a pain, and in the long run it's just easiest to drive.

Ive done several commutes.

Dover to Northeastern 2 days a week. Wasn't so bad because I could drive during off hours. Straight down 95 was free and clear til I hit the on-ramp to Storrow.

Kingston to financial district 5 days a week. I'd drive to Haverhill and take the commuter rail into north station then walk the mile to work. This took a real toll. Had to get the earliest train to make it to work on time. I'd be up at 5am and home by 9pm. Horrible.

Exeter to North Station on occasion. This is my current "commute" to Boston and it's so nice. More expensive ride and fewer time options but the train is very nice and the wifi works well enough. I don't really go into the office but I usually go this route for going to the airport or just going to see friends. (Saw you're going to Longwood. This is a tricky one cause you can definitely get the green line from north station down there but it'll take forever. Honestly if you only go a few times maybe see how an uber or taxi is, may or may not save you time? Hard to say...)

All in all, get yourself close to an Amtrak station if you're doing infrequent visits. Or, if you have easy parking, see if you can do some staggered hours to make the traffic easier to manage. Whatever you do, I'd recommend avoiding the drive on 93. Gross. :(
