No. They are named after the machinist (who ran the machine) that was the first to be used to make Jimmies. Look up the story and please stop spreading this misconception

No, and this comes up so much that I wonder if people like you are just saying that to stir conversation. You can Google it.

There’s no real consensus as to why we use the term, but there’s some solid evidence that it’s due to the color association with “Jim Crow.” I err on the side of caution with this one.

There’s more evidence that it was because Brigham’c Ice Cream shops used to donate all proceeds of the chocolate sprinkles add-on to the Jimmy Fund.

What's that "solid evidence" no article has ever listed? And if it's from Jim Crow, why don't other parts of the country even know the term? I asked a girl for jimmies in the South and she was amazingly confused.

You know what? I’m going to eat my hat a bit on this. I had read the Vice article someone else mentioned on this thread not too long ago (my sister owns an ice cream shop, and we were discussing this very issue) and I remembered it as having actual evidence in it. It does not, and coupled with other articles I’ve just read, it is likely not true.

Serious question: what "solid evidence"? Not only have I never seen any solid evidence, I have actually never seen *any* evidence that the etymology of the word comes from Jim Crow or otherwise anything racist.
