>I am well aware and obviously I was not on scene but a person with a knife can be just left alone, maced, or tazed.
They can also be left alone and end up stabbing and killing multiple people. If the cops show up and the knife holder lunges at them, what do you want them to do? Ask politely that the perp stop stabbing them?
We don't know the facts, but most of the users in this thread have already determined that the cops are somehow at fault.
>But, a lot of cops need to grow a pair, do actual training, and not see every potential danger as one that needs to be resolved with a bullet.
Much of the public needs some actual training that not every incident where police have to use lethal force is unjustified. Remember the autonomous zone in Seattle where cops were prevented from entering and it quickly ended up with people getting shot to death by the nice peaceful people that inhabited the zone?

Few things:
When I said "left alone" I mean alone. I didn't mean "leave them in the house with other people". Cops don't need to shoot people to prevent them from hurting themselves.
I train with cops and have multiple friends that are cops. They are well aware that many folks wearing the badge have no business doing so and are a danger to themselves and the public.
Be aware of where you get your news, especially on the autonomous zone stuff. I have friends who lived on the outskirts of it and it was very clear that the Proud Boys were rolling in there nightly to stir shit up and there was a very strong indication they were coordinating with Seattle PD. To be clear, my friends are non-political people who were just passing along what they would literally see out their window.

So now you're opening the door for the knife wielder to flee or to end their own life. Then the same people who are already vilifying the police would be angry that the cops stood by and did nothing. You're also assuming that there wasn't anyone involved that wasn't able to flee from the guy with the knife. What next, the person that called 911 gets called a murderer too? Let's make calling 911 illegal, that'll fix it for sure.

Oh fuck off with that shit. They had nothing to do with the shooting incident with the two teens in the stolen SUV.

So what do they actually do about that, then? Do they snitch on their fellow cops? Or do they just kinda accept that public danger?

Are you not aware riot shields exist? Do you know the cops in Gilford could have had one each when going anywhere near that house (fully knowing they were meeting someone armed and dangerous) if our approach to law enforcement in the US was sensible? Or probably even if those cops had wanted them?
That video is cops in the UK squaring off against a man running around outside with a machete, and they successfully disarm him. Similar has happened plenty of times, just usually not in the US
Before you say “these situations aren’t even comparable!”— they’re very different situations, yes. The point is it’s definitely possible to stop/disarm/detain someone with a deadly weapon without just going “Everybody STK if you’re scared!”
There are always new ways to do old things, and we come up with them constantly. We can do this one too, we just need to give enough of a shit about it
