Question about the New Haven apartment market. I'm looking for a 1 bed/1 office or 2bed apartment in East Rock for a July/August move in date. My budget is pretty tight - ideally $2000 or less.

I've spoken with some agents who say they know their stock already for the fall and that now is the best time to be looking, and I've also gotten some agents who say I'm looking way too early and should wait until a month before I want to move.

I'd love to know what this sub thinks - am I just way too early in looking for apartments? Or should I jump at the first chance of a great unit?

Start now, with your budget & needs it might take 3 months to find something.

Avoid anything by Pike International, Ocean, or Mandy Management if you can possibly help it

This is definitely the right time to be looking.

Also in the same boat as you. I've been looking most days of the week across a few sites just to see when things pop up and what not. I think it's a good idea to start looking now so you can get an idea.

OT, but if anyone is looking for a 4 bedroom/2 bath split between two floors, let me know. July or August start date

Start now. Because of the academic calendar at Yale, most people sign leases in March-April so they know where they’ll be living in the fall before they leave for research and internships over the summer. Waiting means you get the last picks

I signed a lease in January for a March move. My understanding is that for fall moves now is not too early.
