New haven proper or county ? East rock would probably be a great area! Lots of families there and seems like a spot that is good for trick or treating!

Is Westville a hot spot? I’ll be handing out candy near the CVS on Whalley

Yes but a few blocks over from CVS. The McKinley / Alden St area

Westville usually has tons of kids trick-ortreating, and lots of decorated houses. Try to avoid driving around there, a lot of people walking around and it’s not super well-lit. Maybe park on the edge or in one of the parking lots in the center of westville and walk in. Alden is usually a good place to start.

Usually lots of trick-or-treaters in East Rock too. More compact and dense than Westville.

Wooster Square has historically had lots of decorations. I think there was a dog costume parade held there last week. I don’t know if there are a lot of trick-or-treaters.

East Rock between Orange/State and Lawrence/Willow is a big destination for a lot of families. The people who live there do a good job of decorating their porches and handing out candy.

East Rock between Whitney/Edwards/State/East Rock Park, and Westville between Fountain/Yale/Forest/Chapel, are the two best areas by far.

Hellstrom Road East Haven!!!

It's perfectly spaced, and you get significant candy at each house.

So, I asked my friend about the 2 bowl candy thing, and he said it just started 5 years ago in his neighborhood. This is their last year of giving out candy because there are no local kids left, they all grew up. He said he actually had a bus pull up on his street and everyone turned their lights off and locked up for the night.

So, people don’t stay in their neighborhoods any more and goto better areas? Wow!

This is literally what happens on Halloween in every city in America for at least the last 30 years (aka my entire life), and probably longer….

You are wrong with this..don’t know where you grew up, but everyone I worked with and lived by, never heard of it and if they saw a car or group that were not from around their neighborhood, they would tell them they are out of candy. I make some calls because you make it sound like this was a thing everywhere. Maybe in the deep city.

This doesn’t deserve downvotes IMO.

I’m around your age and we always had to go elsewhere bc we lived on a dark country road

Thank you… I just didn’t know kids do that today… don’t get the downvotes either….

Now I know what my friends were talking about by having separate candy for kids.

Its called trunk or treat. Its a pretty common celebration now and some parents feel its safer than going door to door.
