There is a New Jersey outside of North Jersey.

There are also homes under $600k in North Jersey. To imply everyone in NJ is rich is honestly one of the most delusional, stupid things I’ve ever heard. It’s not the cheapest state but it’s also a great place to live. OP appears to be a troll or at the very least thrives on conflict based on his post history. He literally just posted about how his house hunting in St. Louis isn’t going well either and his marriage is falling apart because of it, so this post appears to be just another attempt (he posted his “bye NJ” post 200 or so days ago) to anger the sub.

There are definitely homes under 600k in North Jersey! (Maybe in less desirable areas, but still there)

"it must be nice to be a Montclair trust fund baby" is clearly an ignorant statement. They should take a visit to Irvington or Camden and we'll see if they still say that.

Interesting that they're posting about troubles finding a house in other places too lol. I guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Maybe your just bad at budgeting your money.

BYNX0 t1_je8knte wrote

What an ignorant statement. You can easily get a nice home in Irvington or E. Orange for under 450k.

Now maybe those aren't the most desirable neighborhoods ever, but you certainly can't say the tiniest house in ALL OF NORTH JERSEY starts at 600k.

Ok_Slide_4626 t1_je8rq8f wrote

Who in the actual fuck wants to live in Irvington or East Orange? For almost a half mil. Lol ok.

throwawayk8483 t1_je9bkqx wrote

No one wants to live in Irvington or east Orange and I’ve been looking for 2 years it’s all crappy houses or home that have major problems of you don’t go in the 650 and above range

Seems like the house hunt isn’t going well in St. Louis either. Nor is your marriage where you told your wife if she doesn’t like American culture, she can leave and now you are getting a divorce? What kind of troll are you? You posted the same stupid “bye NJ” thing almost a year ago on this sub. Do you just get off on pissing everyone off?

Moved from Jersey to Texas and while the cost of living is much better, Jersey is where you'd want to raise a family. It has everything and is in a great location. I hope more folks leave so it's a bit easier for when I move back ;)

Lol really? I'm dying to be able to go to the shoreline weekend and a great sculpture garden the next. That's the reason to move to NJ. You got so many cultural and recreational amenities within easy reach. The only noticible gap in recreation is truly great remote nature type recreation.

LiveWire_74 t1_je8huht wrote

So to where did you move? Can you tell us specifically how wonderful it is? How long have you been? Do you have kids? The roads are well lit? An ambulance will get there soon should you need it? Is there culture? Good food? These are just questions. I’m genuinely curious.

I’m 99% sure this guy is either a troll or just a bad liar. Looking through his post history, he posted a “leaving NJ was the best decision” post 209 days ago where one comment he made stated “we had to live in Montclair so my in-laws could help with the baby.” 170 days ago he posts on relationships that he hasn’t met his wife’s parents. I know in-laws aren’t always parents but that seems suspicious. Timelines are confusing too - 2 years ago he posts that he’s 30M but last year he posts elsewhere that he’s 35M. I’m not an expert but I don’t think you can age 5 years in 2 years timespan. All this internet sleuthing to say I think he’s a liar trying to rile people up and he can’t keep his story straight.

MainStreetinMay t1_je91cg8 wrote

Thanks for the comment history reminder. It seems that he should post this in the St Louis subreddit since he’s having a hard time buying a house there as well.

You are spot-on to ask about the ambulance. Access to medical care outside Jersey is largely crap. I found some affordable homes out of state, but none were within a 90 minute drive of a developmental pediatrician accepting new patients or with a short waiting list that accept our insurance. I’d love to leave but my kid’s doctors are here.

LiveWire_74 t1_jeajikk wrote

Your child’s care is the most important thing, as you know. Secondly, the educational system here, while not perfect, is really good I’m told. Unfortunately for me, my kids live in upstate NY.

where'd you end up moving to? I've been thinking for the last year to leave nj too. I'm making around 50k a year, single, and takes considerable effort to find something decent to rent that's 1k or less that isn't in the hood. even with that price 9/10 times it's a studio apartment. plus i'm not much of a people person and I feel there's just too many people here for my taste... Tennessee or Maine i'm slowly looking into.

BYNX0 t1_je8ks1d wrote

I don't think I'll ever be able to leave NJ.

But I have some friends that moved down to N. & S. Carolina, they love it there.

I know taxes and home prices are much more affordable there too.

Wouldn’t ever be able to leave Jersey. I’m a (new) teacher. Couldn’t imagine trying to do that down south or the Midwest. There’s like five or so states where it is worth it to teach, and luckily I am in one of them.

BYNX0 t1_je8ggoc wrote

I hope you're happy with wherever you end up.
NJ may be expensive, but you'll soon realize that NJ has EVERYTHING, and you may miss it when you're gone.
Mountains up northwest, Beaches on the southeast, the most densely populated city in the country, as well as farm-towns with barely any population density.
Traffic may be bad here, but it's not much better in other places in the country with many interesting things to do.

It’s just a bad market for buyers right now. I bought a small but nice house in Roseland for under $400,000 just a few years ago. Things always change.
