So to where did you move? Can you tell us specifically how wonderful it is? How long have you been? Do you have kids? The roads are well lit? An ambulance will get there soon should you need it? Is there culture? Good food? These are just questions. I’m genuinely curious.

I remember now, that you could see downtown Manhattan if you looked off to the side b Your artwork is so awesome. I bet if you did have a chance to visit the torch (it was actually opened to the public in the early years, until 1916 I believe) you would make another great piece.

I was a US Park Service Ranger, and I worked T the monument for a few years from 1998-2001. Your experience is not unusual. But I will say that for every person who visited the hot, small crown, queing up outside, and walking slowly up the entire pedestal and statue, who was unimpressed, at least 3 others thought it was the most amazing experience of their lives. I’ve been up there no less than a hundred times, and one time I was lucky enough to actually get to the torch. OP, you have taken a little “liberty” with your beautiful sketch, as the view from the crown points east, towards France, not to the he Manhattan skyline. Your artistic expression of your he view is astounding though. Amazing job.

Take these people’s good advice my man! I came into $112k just about five years ago. With the exception of $10k for my kids’ 529 college plan, $6k for my Roth IRA, and finally $30k for down payment of my condo, I pissed it all away. Roughly $60k just disappeared because I didn’t have a plan.

I absolutely agree. I bet by “open the public,” they meant more like open to dignitaries. Not only is it climbing up a ladder, but the ladder is on an angle. Very weird.

The torch? It’s one of the most amazing things Ive ever done. Imagine….you’re outside, just walking around. It’s scary because it’s swaying, but amazing!

Oh cool. I worked there like from 1998-2000. Only a couple rangers chose to live on the island. It’s a tough life. The last boat back is at 9 or 10. You essentially stay on that island all the time. I couldn’t do it.

Idk the answers to these questions. Suffice to say the Dept of the Interior works in mysterious ways.

Yes probably. It’s a National monument. It’s patrolled both by NPS Park Rangers and USPP law enforcement officers. We swept the entire island everyday looking for people hiding and for hazards left behind.

Even the climb up to the Crown is claustrophobic. From the pedestal level (ie her feet), you walk up a double-helix spiral staircase. It’s smaller than you might imagine. In the summer it gets very hot too. Remember, you are within a copper structure. It’s easily 20 degrees (f) warmer than the outside ambient temp. That’s why we only used to let the first two boats up to the crown. Essentially we closed it by 10:30am.

The torch has been closed to the public since like 1911. You have to climb up a ladder in her arm to get the torch. I’ve done it. Ex USPS Park Ranger

Your child’s care is the most important thing, as you know. Secondly, the educational system here, while not perfect, is really good I’m told. Unfortunately for me, my kids live in upstate NY.
