OG is nice but crazy crowded and parking a nightmare. Plus weirdo religious restrictions (can’t go on the beach on “sabbath”,wtf, are we in Afghanistan). Try Avon, a couple towns south.

Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as an outgrowth of the camp meeting movement in the United States, when a group of Methodist clergymen, led by William B. Osborn and Ellwood H. Stokes, formed the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association to develop and operate a summer camp meeting site on the New Jersey seashore.[14] By the early 20th century, the popular Christian meeting ground became known as the "Queen of Religious Resorts."[15] The community's land is still owned by the camp meeting association and leased to individual homeowners and businesses. Ocean Grove remains the longest-active camp meeting site in the United States.

It’s a fascinating place. I just have an issue with church groups telling me when I can swim in the ocean.

In the 80s you couldn’t drive on Sundays. They had chains across the few streets that led out of town.

Before noon? The beach is closed until noon because they think you should be in church. https://www.oceangrove.org/visiting-the-beach. That’s messed up and an abuse of authority.

If your waiting for the lifeguard to be on duty, sorry it’s closed. I don’t see anyone making you get up and go if you’re there before

I don’t understand the comment. If you go onto the sand, the police ticket you.

I’ve never seen anyone patrol the beach like that, as someone who used to frequent the area. But maybe I’m wrong!

Agreed. Ocean Grove is weird, I don't see the hype at all. They have like two good ice cream shops and that's it. Weird religious fanatics comprise of most of the town.
