The only way to “know for sure” would be to collect data from every single person in the state and do the math yourself. Otherwise look at the time period cited and source/methodology and determine which web figure you like.

Part of your issue might be that “median” and “average” are two very different things. Which are you actually looking for? Also, are you looking for individual or household income?

I am looking for 'median' average specifically, as it gives a much more accurate idea of how much the average person makes.

the 'mean' average includes billionaires... they skew the number tremendously.
