All industry even construction companies are struggling. Unions aren’t getting as many applications as they used to and some are unwilling to get their hands dirty.. I do believe the biggest factor is the lack of pay especially in NJ. The companies are making record profits bragging about it and cutting pay and benefits. But that’s my opinion from a 31 year old.

Construction companies claim labor shortage issues but when “people” applied, “they” hardly heard from them and if “they” do is a ridiculously low pay offer for a temporary job. So no the construction industry does not have a labor shortage but a low pay problem. Edit: to highlight a know issue about job applicants not personal experience

You applying for non union job that’s your choice. Most union laborers are making 38-42$ a hour as a journeymen apprentice around 25-30$ a hour not including your benefits.. maybe you should apply for the labor union because they are taking applications now.

Or YOU want to push an invalid argument, the post is about whole industries not 2 jobs in Cape May. The shortage of skilled trades exist because companies abandoned for too long apprenticeship programs.

The union offers apprenticeships. Ocean County College offers an electrical apprentice program. You just have to get off your lazy butt.

I believe it, it’s gotta be disheartening hearing from someone like a relative who was in trades saying how bad you’re getting fucked over and how it’s nowhere close to as cushy as it was when they were in it decades ago.

Not many people just starting out now are ever going to get close to be a proverbial uncle with the classic cars in the garage at the second house in Palm Beach.
