Depends where you work, but to me, New Brunswick, Hackensack, or maybe the ironbound in Newark.
That said, Philadelphia will have more bang for your buck than almost anywhere in NJ though.

Ironbound has exploded in cost in the last 5 years or so. Not worth it at all at this point given how polluted it is

Yeah I am not a huge fan of that place either, particularly the architecture. It's horrible.
You cannot beat the food and diversity of nightlife though.

Yeah the architecture sucks and it’s not nearly as pedestrian/bike friendly as it should be given just how dense it is. The food is fine if you like the same couple of options repeated endlessly and don’t mind paying 25 dollars for a dish that’s half frozen French fries lol

Iron bound has a lot of hidden wealth. A lot of the kids there went to private schools. The good restaurants and cafes make bank and it was always relatively safe to walk around there as a teenager
