You've been working there for a year and have never had any kind of break in all that time? Why, in the name of God, would you keep working there after the first week? That's ridiculous.

I needed a job fast at the time and They were paying me 17$ an hour plus tips and that’s more than anywhere around here was paying to start

That’s not bad at all actually. But you are still entitled to a lunch break and they cannot doc your pay. that’s illegal, don’t put up with that nonsense and report them. Tell your management too. Don’t let them take your money.

NJ law: OP is not entitled to breaks--even meal breaks--unless it was documented in an enforceable offer letter or employment contract. Sad, but true.

Actually, unless your under 18… or 16, I can’t remember, they aren’t required to give you any breaks. It sucks but it’s true.

No they're right. After 18 no requirement for breaks.

Yea, I just double checked. Over the age of 18, nj doesn’t mandate breaks. It’s crappy, but legal.

Wow I never knew that. I would never work for anyone who wouldn’t give breaks. No matter how much they pay

nj law requires a break after the first 3 hours and a lunch break after the first 5 hours

That only applies to minors. New Jersey does not mandate breaks for adults.
