Am I the only one that feels MVCs got better post pandemic?

I agree. The appointment system has been great for me.

the issues with getting appointments is a pretty major problem they need to figure out better. personally i had no issue getting one for my real id, but i also did mine back in 2021 so idk how it is now. having to drive all the way down to flemington to do license things is annoying. they really need to move the somerville office to a bigger spot (how about renting space at the shopping center at the somerville circle and expanding) and do both licenses and vehicle transactions there.

I never really got the purpose of the split vehicle/licensing centers. Most locations are laid out so that part of the building is for one, part is for the other, so these past two years they've just been half-empty. Always seemed like such a pointless change.

The three MVCs nearest to me all got significantly worse… And even when you had an appointment you would have to wait for hours after the allotted appointment time, sometimes they wouldn’t even get to you and they would give you a voucher to come back the next day. Not to mention the soonest appointment you could get would be 2-3 months out. It was third world-ish

Overall my experiences at DMVs in the last two months I would rate as a B. I just did a name change and the Social Security office was the worst but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The license DMV in Randolph, took 45 minutes total most of the time processing my application (I did go early on a Saturday, no appointment necessary for a name change), so not a lot of line waiting. The vehicle DMV in Springfield took me about 20 minutes total, super fast for registration and some of that time was me filling out the correct form.
The main issue I have is that the licensing center mails you your ID now, so I had to wait 2 weeks to get my license to then go to the vehicle dmv to change my registration.
I've had worse dmv experiences pre-pandemic. And it was not nearly as bad as waiting in line for a covid vaccine.

If they process the document centrally and mail it to you then any office should be able to conduct the transaction. Going to a license center that then sends you a document printed at a remote location doesn’t make any sense.

Guessing they're understaffed like everyone else

long story short, they're going to convert some of the mvc locations from being either license or vehicle only back to doing both, because complaints. requiring appointments will not be going away. plus not all of them.
