Many people go to beaches just to tan, even at rockaway.

Ew so people just sweat for hours is the hot sun and don't bathe until they get home? That sounds awful (and unpleasant for everyone around them).

You mean like summer in Boston? I don’t deal well with humid heat…

I literally have heat intolerance going to the beach and not swimming sounds insane

If some mild BO is unpleasant for someone, then they aren't cut out for nyc lol. They wouldn't notice it over the smell of trash heaps and aerosolized piss that hangs in the air here between june and september anyways.

This made me crack up - perfect description of nyc.

Yea I live here and take the train to the beach. Why be a part of the problem?
eggitywegs t1_j7iz9nm wrote
Is the problem people who tan at the beach or people who don't mind their own business?

You would swim?

Not in the Hudson or the East River. I swim in the Atlantic all the time.

"Cleanest the rivers have been in 100 years" doesn't seem like it would be clean enough to swim in safely.
Also, what about climate change? As these rivers rise, won't beaches encourage flooding?
Lastly, whut about crime? Murderers have been throwing victims' bodies in the East River probably since before 1496.

No swimming is more about shipping and currents (the hudson is cold, fast, strong, and filled with boats). Also, the hudson river isnt the east river.

The beach in Brooklyn is on the East River.

If you cannot safely eat fish caught in the river due to pollution, I don't think you can swim in it safely either.
thatisnotmyknob t1_j736qfa wrote
Yea and based on currents alot of those bodies are found in Williamsburg (according to cops I talked to as I watched them fish out a body in Long Island City).

Hey, anything to thin out the weekend warrior herd in rockaways is welcome.

Is it really a beach of you can't swim? Ima say no and continue to go to Brighton or Jacob Riis. Also a lot of bodies wash up in that part of Brooklyn due to currents so again...pass.
