James Harrison
Specifically, his blood contains an extremely rare enzyme that can be used to treat babies dying of Rhesus disease. If you’ve never heard of that disease and figure it’s not a big deal, well, wait for the numbers.
Harrison, being a generous type, has donated his rare, life-saving blood roughly 1,000 times over 56 years. This has saved the lives of–seriously, you’re not going to believe this–over two million babies around the world.

I still get a high from certain jewelry counter displays. Not sure if it’s socialized, but I think it’s comparable to men being engaged by sports or cars.
That said, this stone is hideous. The hue and muddy cuts astound me. Jennifer Lopez is negotiating a sale.

Yeah, but then they’re grown, they’re deliberately designed. Diamonds like this are very rare in nature. It’s not fair to compare the two.
TheTabman t1_jeadqi4 wrote
Why is it comparison not fair?
They can be grown to be 99.99% the same as the ones which are digged up by exploited miner. Even the experts can no longer tell the difference without damaging the stone. Natural Diamonds have tiny amounts of nitrogen, while artificial grown Diamonds have no nitrogen.
That's it.

Because the entire element of chance is removed. A thing ceases to be rare and beautiful if it is intentionally replicated in a laboratory.
It’s like instructing an AI to recreate one of Monet’s Water Lily paintings. The AI will easily do so, perhaps flawlessly, but it would not sell for tens of millions like an original because it is deliberate and inorganic. Blood diamonds are a plague, as well as the entire exploitative aspect of the gem mining industry - but there are very valid reasons as to why synthetic gems aren’t preferred by the general public.
