The "zero-COVID" policy really seems to be hurting China's growth.

Wondering if they will revert to something else in the near future.

It’s hurting their growth, but the destruction of their housing market is what’s really underlying their economy’s problems. Put together with inflation and Zero Covid and my god… they’re going to be in so much trouble. The question is how long it takes, how long can the CCP cover the holes up before people realize they’ve broken the social contract? “You make me more prosperous, but in return I have no freedom.” That was the deal, and the CCP are covering up the fact that they can’t hold up their end.

It is idiotic and poorly executed. You have thousands at a park and you just can't leave because a person was positive. Makes 0 sense.

It’s also worth noting that the SinoVac vaccine is shown to have about a 50% efficacy rate. That’s much lower than the 90%-95% of the western options.

Also it’s a good excuse to further government reach so authoritarians are going for it.

Why does China still care so much about Covid while literally the rest of the world has moved on to just dealing with it like a cold? It’s creepy man

Cause their vaccine doesn't work but they won't admit it because that shows that they failed. So instead of just importing working vaccines, they still use harsh quarantines to limit the spread of the disease to a largely unprotected population

100%. IMO it could also get more complicated considering the family structure too, mostly one-child. Adult children dying = lots of old people that need to be taken care of. Grandparents dying = loss of child care (a huge number of children in China are raised primarily by grandparents)

The affects of covid on the elderly I had a dark thought that China would do nothing, tell everyone there so so vaccine worked and watch it remove the most expensive part of the population to care for.

People said the Chinese respected the elderly. But seeing what happened to probably the most prestigious elder the former head Hu Jintao on the Party Congress I now agree with you

They care about exerting maximum control on their population. COVID is a convenient excuse.
