The government has advised any US travelers going to Mogadishu to prepare a will and prepare for someone to negotiate your release if you are held hostage.

Is there ever a point where the government will just stop someone physically at the airport and sit them down and say, “if you go here you are probably going to die”? Like that kid who went to North Korea a while back. Is there any protocol to really hammer the message home? Some people will read the travel advisories and just ignore all of it because obviously something like that could never happen to them. But then it does…

There way of doing that is not allowing flights from the US to those countries/areas.
Doesn’t stop somebody from flying to let’s say china, and hitching a flight there.
