You've got it the wrong way round - nations are poorest (partly) because they are most often ravaged by natural diasters. Civiliations with temperate and predictable weather patterns have a big advantage.

The Tonga plume got to an altitude of 57km and we've defined space as 100km, so it got more than halfway there, which is pretty impressive.

Tonga is an archipelago. Over 169 islands.
I was looking into "buying" an island there. You can lease them from the king with a 99 year lease. $180k a dozen or so years ago for one with fruit trees and some dilapidated housing.
