I don’t think Jesus would approve of a piece of shit who joined the Hitler youth by indoctrination for hatred of other groups of people, and later in life protected others priests from prosecution by covering up sex crimes. So yeah this man was not Holy. I see no reason to treat him with honorable funeral. As a matter of fact, it would be a disservice.

Even if he wasn't, he was 8 when the Nazis seized power, that was the environment he grew up in. There is enough about him that should be critized before you get to his role at the end of the war.

It's wild to me how the Catholics will say it's disrespectful to bring up the sexual abuse.

If you're more offended about people rightly holding him to account for abuse than you are about the actual rape of children you deserve at the very least to be perpetually offended.

He did retire. He didn't have a job, and acting like he did have one would've taken away from what his successor was doing. This is typical for rulers who abdicate their throne, they at most take an advisory role that keeps them out of the public eye. Calling it "going into hiding" is a bit misleading.
