To be honest those interchanges are a shitshow without the crashes. Add in the weather and over confident drivers, its a recipe for disaster

No kidding! While they were reconstructing it, the entry merge lanes should have been a lot longer. On a dry day, trying to get on between bumper to bumper semis is awful if you are match ing traffic speed, and then there’s the stoplight traffic trying to get on in a long string cars. 1/2 mile more might not be enough.

In all fairness I live in ATL and that shitshow in 2014(?) was a disaster. And it wasnt so much they couldnt handle the snow. There was no salt or brine trucks. The whole city turned to ice. And the yuppies driving teslas or anything not 4wheel drive were screwed from the jump. But im a truck driver who learned to drive in the snow, behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler.

I think there just needs to be better education on driving during shit weather. I cannot tell you how many pickups I see stuck that can handle the snow, if the owners would throw a bit of weight in it or some chains/snow tires. I shouldn't be doing better than pickups in my shitty, cheap 4 door with manual windows and locks.

Modern cars are incredibly capable (up to a point, as you said) provided owners actually know what to do, how to drive, and how to prepare/handle poor weather from the start. As you said, people who've never learned or dealt with extremely poor conditions can be way too overconfident. I'd rather more people stay home/not drive in bad weather than a bunch of people going out who have no clue how to handle it.

I was sitting on a Delta jet at Hartsfield one time while snow was swirling around the runway. The pilot apologized for the wait for takeoff and "joked" that the ground crew were busy reading the instruction manual for the de-icing equipment since they hadn't used it lately.

As a frequent flyer at the time, I didn't think that was funny. At all.

Southern states can’t even handle clean roads. When I lived in Louisville, KY, there’d be a 10 car pileup on the fucking interstate on a sunny, 70° Saturday afternoon.
