They didn't need a criminal charge because Impeachment doesn't require a crime. And they didn't have the votes for the impeachment until he tried the coup and then he was overwhelmingly voted out

Yeah, the guy literally tried to illegally seize power. I don't really care what political alignment his opposition is .
