Sounds a bit—okay a lot—more sinister than Beau, though.

I mean I think it is easy to forget what Beau is really like. He told Kate he would do something terrible to her if she refused a drink from his cup. Something so terrible she didn't tell us what it was. And we are talking about Kate here...she described a lot of terrible things that can happen to a person!

I mean, yeah, Beau was bad, but he was like overtly bad. The "I'll fuck you up in this way if you don't do X" kind of bad. The devil is just... We don't know. He keeps offering deals that are too good to be true and expecting seemingly nothing in return, which—because inhuman things—makes him loop right back to really really bad, but we don't get to know why.

The unknown factor, the feeling that Ashley's surrounded in a net she can't see, is what I think puts the devil above Beau here in terms of "This guy is bad news".

I think the Man with the Skull Cup days are waaaay more sinister than this metaphorical devil.

Probably, but Sippy Cup Bae was a huge unknown, which is why we assumed he had sinister motives. This devil guy is about as close as possible to overtly planning something bad. He's so good he loops right back to super evil because that's how these things work.

Yes, but that's too good to be true. The catch is standing right there taunting you, but you can't see it, so the whole thing loops right back to super scary.

Honestly, he sounds more familiar than Beau, and more manageable too - you kinda know how to work around him and his MO. Besides, there are plenty of stories of tricksters defeating the devil, so we know it's always a possibility.

That's the bad part. We think we know how to work around him, but he's also been giving Ashley too much for too little, and sooner or later he'll come collecting. The thing is: We don't know how he's gonna collect.

yeah, But I think that in his mind, this isn't about Ashley at all. She's just a tool in his personal war against the "new" creatures. That might be why the bargain seems disproportionate from her POV: there are bigger things at stake.
