If you genuinely think Russia today is run the same as the Soviet Union then you're delusional. They're both authoritarian but that doesn't mean they're the same.

Authoritarian cult of personality, sham elections, with an economic system that overwhelming favors the people in power.

It's not a perfect copy, but it's still basically the same.
