The sad thing is someone that got that ALSO does actually have lung cancer, probably and will soon get another text saying "actually, also, you did have lung cancer"

I don't imagine that text message is how they would notify someone. Anyone under there care with that diagnosis would certainly know it before receiving the text.

This is crazy to me, where I live they'll only text you a negative result for a test, and only if you've opted in. If you have an actual health concern they need to inform you about, they always call and confirm that its you on the phone. If they can't get ahold of you, they just send a 'call us ASAP' text.

I had an ultrasound earlier this year to see if my remaining ovary had developed cysts that needed surgical intervention. When the voicemail they left me said "call us back and ask for X" instead of "it's clear" I was very concerned. The relatively brief hold I endured was horrible. Turned out that I just had fluid in my abdomen indicating a recently burst cyst, NBD. Around here they apparently don't even give relatively benign results through an impersonal message.

I really feel for the people who got that text.
