Comedian says strange thing to get attention....

This is news?

Just like she's always posing topless... for attention.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is real. Met her when she was much younger (before success) comic in NYC and she wasn't all that bright.

it's really hard to be this ignorant, like, you probably have to had it taught wrong to you in the first place and have really bad observational skills plus not live outside much. Even then, i doubt most people would get to 15 without realising.

Presumably you’d have seen them in the sky at the same time at least once?

We’ve also definitely had multiple eclipses in her lifetime

That seems weird. How long ago was that? Maybe this is a Mandela Effect thing lol

Yeah, you’d prettymuch have to be raised in a cult compound somewhere. I don’t even think she’s all that funny, but the fact that people are taking a comedian seriously when she says something silly says more about them than it does about her.

I don’t know what’s happened recently but people are taking everything a comedian says at face value. Like a large swath of the population believes every story that comedian makes up for their routine is true.

Sounds like an Onion headline tbh

She's a comedian, so, I can believe she said that but I am inclined not to believe she was being anything other than funny.

I really wish more people would see comedians as performers playing characters and not necessarily people talking about their own hilarious lives.

Ricky Gervais talks about this pretty explicitly in his most recent special. One of my favorites is when Daniel Tosh says in one of his shows “My girlfriend is Asian…for this next joke.”

Mikimao t1_j4nwizi wrote

Yeah, as a fan of stand up, it blows my mind how people can't understand how talking in a way that isn't normally socially acceptable, can be really fucking fun. You get to bend the rules any which way, as an art form

Being true isn't even ancillary to what is going on, it's straight up not even required, and often times would just get in the way.

Iirc Louis CK had one like that too, like “I was hanging out with my friend Dave the other day, and well his names not really Dave but it doesn’t matter because I’m lying”

Or something like that

Basically “don’t worry about if any of it happened or not, just enjoy the joke”

Maybe but if you watch Handler long enough, it doesn’t really take too long, you’ll see a lot of examples of her ‘being funny.’ She says a lot of real airhead shit and looks genuinely pissed when she is called out on it.

QuestionableAI t1_j4qon5k wrote

All part of the act.

The performance that started the day she was born and will come to a close on her deathbed. She's method acting the role of a lifelong vapid dumbass.

This would imply that until she was 40 she thought that Neil Armstrong et al. landed on the sun. If she is not joking, may I suggest....euthanasia?

Dumdumgirlsbeeep t1_j4mx51h wrote

This is also part of her latest stand up on Netflix lol

I don't believe it. She is not stupid. She might be a ridiculous, self absorbed person with little self awareness. But, she's not stupid. This is just a joke to create material

I can’t wait for her to share other unfunny details!

BroForceOne t1_j4nqvgi wrote

Do people really think comedians don't make up shit? How eventful would your life have to be, and how good of a memory would you need to have, to be armed with decades of stand-up material?

This reminds of how people thought Curb Your Enthusiasm was a documentary about Larry David's real life.

Kinda how she found out.

>“My older sister Simone looked up at the sky and she said, ‘Chelsea, Chelsea look up. It’s not often that you get to see the sun and the moon at the same time,’” Handler recalled. “And I go ‘Wait, but they’re always together’
