I really wish more people would see comedians as performers playing characters and not necessarily people talking about their own hilarious lives.
Ricky Gervais talks about this pretty explicitly in his most recent special. One of my favorites is when Daniel Tosh says in one of his shows “My girlfriend is Asian…for this next joke.”

There’s no FU here. You aren’t really friends. And that’s ok. You learned that, so it’s time to move on. Try to spend your time with people that want to spend theirs with you. Chasing people you think you should hang out with will not lead to anything good.

Surprising to me because this season is absolutely not as compelling as the first. Entertaining, sure, but S1 characters were so good.

We expect people to obey them because most people generally speaking don’t want to end up in horrible automobile accidents. It’s pretty good motivation.
