I'm not a nyc resident but I was there around christmas and visited the library and gave them my contact info. I got a visitor library card while I was there that was good for like 2 weeks or a month or something.

Anyways, I got an email from the library asking me to donate/join the Friends of NYPL thing, and one benefit of donating is that I get a membership card. is this a library card, or is it just a card that says i'm a friend of the NYPL?

I'd be willing to pay for a permament library card if that's an option, so if this friends of nypl thing is not going to give me a library card, is there a way I could pay to get one permanently?

The friends of nypl is just a donation, you can renew your card by scanning a copy of your ID and emailing it to patronaccounts@nypl.org
