Eh, I hate to defend the police, but I am curious as to what this writer wanted them to do with 12 protesters in front of a theater (the article does not indicate any illegal behavior), and if they'd expect the police to act differently if those protesters were advocating for a left-wing cause.

Oh, if these were left-wingers you may be sure that dozens of cops would show.

There are dozens of left wing protests daily in the city without police presence.

LMAO, there are not.

There literally are. You don’t need thousands of people to be a protest.
This is less than a dozen people.

For one they were in the street with a (hateful) banner. Whenever left-wing protesters do their thing the first way the cops fuck with them is to tell them to get off the street.
It also wasn't 12 people in the street. It was a total of around 3 or 4.
Basically, due to the layout, the only way they could have so offensively displayed the banner to the crowd waiting in line is if they were allowed to be on the street. There was no room on the sidewalk for them. Ergo, NYPD -- through inaction -- enabled them to do this aspect of it.
(Handing out flyers peacefully was of course protected speech.)
