That’s beautiful!

Um, congrats and all, but… People get married every day. There is ZERO reason to shut down traffic in the most densely populated city in the US just because you want to party.
Imagine if everyone did this? Every day? Now you should expect some backlash as this stunt appears to be very selfish and a clear violation of the social contract when you work, live and play in the city.

Did they have a permit? If yes, who cares?

No indication that they did though

There’s a time and place for everything. I don’t think Broadway in the middle of the day is the right place for a massive wedding procession… some people are just trying to go about their day so they can get home to their families

If only there were a system of tunnels and massive people conveyors below the street surface…

Relax everyone that looks like Broadway just north of Macy's where there's only 1 traffic lane anyway before it becomes a pedestrian only area south of 35th St and cars are forced to make a right. Nobody uses Broadway as a primary thoroughfare between Columbus Circle and Union Sq. I also suspect the video being titled "shuts down Broadway" was a creative interpretation of events. God forbid we have a little vibrancy in our otherwise soul-draining city.

Broadway just north of Harold Square is hardly teeming with traffic midday since it became predominantly pedestrianized. Cars needing to travel north-south use the surrounding avenues since it isn't cut off like Broadway is at Times, Harold, and Union Squares.

That’s Suraj Patel, who’s always running for Congress (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/14/nyregion/suraj-patel-nadler-maloney.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare) and it seems like it’s his brother’s wedding, so I’m guessing they had a permit

Everyone hating on my brothers I'd rather this than another subway shooting as my morning news

That's an awful lot of main characters.

This was permitted like a march, block party, or event.
But regardless NYC would be a better place if the spontaneous demonstrations we're used to seeing were more like Indian weddings.

No it didn’t. Do you all remember midtown coming to a halt a few days ago? No? I don’t either.

The East Indians have big money to shut down Broadway like that.
datatadata t1_it4tlx1 wrote
If they had the permit to do this, people can’t really blame them. Blame the people who allowed/issued the permits

Some of the things they do feels just out of spite or just because they can. I am of Indian ancestry.

I am usually a curmudgeon but I agree on this. I'd rather hear about a wedding shutting down a street and grumble about it than hear about someone being killed. :(
