We don’t have fireworks. Just some sparkly ball you can’t really see.

Sadly no family but I do have a friend in NYC & Buffalo! How much should I be budgeting for a rental car etc?

Buffalo is several hours drive away so count that out. If you're planning on just staying in around Manhattan. Then you don't need a car. MTA will get you where you need to go and again Google maps will give you fastest route from a to b using it. Car rental will be more expensive over festive season. So use uber if you want comfort.

You can't..and I'm being serious lol

If the "street" numbers go up your moving north.

If the "Ave" number go up your going west.

For once us NYer did something right lolol

HereWeGo is a free mapping software with full state downloads. I've used it in several US and EU cities. The transit and walking is great. Points 9f Interest requires internet connection but the maps work without internet access.

The software was developed for Nokia.

In all honesty you don't need a map...if anything just write down the address and the nearest cross street.

Unless you go to the village all of Manhattan is set up in a numeric grid.
