Imma be 100% honest with you. You dont need anything, if youre worried pepper spray is allowed, but NY and NYC are statistically some of the safest parts of the US. Dont buy into to crime fearmongering which was heavily pushed by Eric Adams and many GOP politicians to try and win the last few elections. Stuff happens yes but its not in reality something which should affect how you behave other than just basic common sense dos/donts.

Understood like I said I have been several times as I have family there. the most I have ever seen is a crazy homeless dude scream at a seat on the train about how he needed money no one was in the seat. I'm in Oklahoma now and people dance in the middle of the street and try to get hit by cars.

like you said, there’s not much you are allowed to have.
you need licenses for everything!
maybe not knives

From what I've read knives outside of utility or for work use only are prohibited. I was thinking of getting a push knife at or under two inches but that seems to be illegal as well.

You can now carry around pocket knives that are 4 inches or less. You can not carry them into the subway and they must stay in your pocket. If it's on your belt it's considered concealment and if you get stopped they'll arrest you for carrying a concealed weapon.

So if you have a pocket knife you just don't get on the subway.

That's right. And you can't hook it on your belt or conceal it any form. Just leave it ya know in your pocket.
